Julie Boomer | I have used the How-To Store, as it was previously known, and now Woodland Hardware for 28 years as needed. The new store is nice in the sense that they carry just about anything hardware that you may need. But I will not use them again for anything unless there are no other options and not enough time to run to the Springs. The following is my experience and my personal opinions. Please read Yelp for my full review. I feel that their rental equipment is not maintained properly, and the store rental employees and the owner follow a business model that places the customer secondary to the revenue generated by rentals. We have rented bobcats, floor sanders, and a multitude of other equipment over the years. We rented a floor sander for our Douglas Fir flooring, which is a bit softer than hardwood. We needed to sand down approximately an 1/8th inch for the end of a plank, and less of a difference for the remainder of the small area of the floor. We installed the pad and 36 grit sandpaper, and started it. It did not sand. We ran it forward and back over several areas of the floor the newly installed, and the existing and the only part of the sander that engaged with the floor were 2 of the edges. Then it began to make loud noises and jogged to the side, as if the motor or some other element was failing. We shut it off, loaded it back in the car, and returned it the next morning at 8am. I spoke with 2 employees, and Kelly, the owner, who all pointed the blame on the user, not the equipment. We performed remodeling professionally for 9 years, and built a custom home from the ground up... we know how to use a sander, and understand that a planer is a better choice if you have a large difference to level. We were working with the end of a 2x5 at this 1/8" difference, all else being lower. I can say from experience, this is not the first time - but it will be the last - that we rent equipment from the How-To and end up with equipment that doesn't work as intended. I walked away from this experience without a refund and knowing that each of the 3 people that I engaged with over this sander, were calling us liars. The policy that the customer is always right does not apply at the How-To. I told Kelly that he should retain my info, as when that same sander goes out again as a rental and he receives the same complaint - and he will - that we should expect a full refund. My advice - if you choose to work with Woodland Hardware, call them the instant that equipment does not work properly for you, get a name, and preferably get something in writing regarding a refund, and don't expect a refund even then. And don't expect respect. |
