Southeastern Building Products – Roofing Contractor in Clinton, North Carolina

We've done business with this company for many years. We've purchased a lot of metal for roofs, buildings, etc. Two years ago we had them build a 20x20 garage. The crew was great the price was fair and we were very happy. We decided we needed more space and wanted to extend our garage 20 feet. We wanted to remove the front wall and move it and of course add two sides. I called Aime told her what we wanted and she sent me an estimate of roughly 5000 including insulation and everything. We were ready to move forward, I asked what the price difference was to change the 8 foot wide door to a ten foot wide door. Suddenly she said the boss wanted Mr Ken to come out and take a look. No problem, he was the one who built our original garage. He came out and looked at everything. Later I got a message from him saying it would cost over 9000 to add on. That's more than the original garage was, with less walls and nearly double the original estimate!!!. They said it was because the cost of materials went up. I understand that to an extent, however this will take a lot less materials than the original building, so why is it so much more than the original building and more than the original estimate I received two weeks prior? Nearly double the first estimate. I asked if they could meet us in the middle with such a huge difference in price, esp since we've done so much business there and referred so many people. I sent him a picture of the original estimate as well. He checked with his general manager, and said the manager wouldn't budge. The way all this has happened I wonder if they're under new management. We are business owners too, but we've stayed in business for 40 years because we're as good as our word and appreciate loyal customers. I'm not giving one star only because the employees are really good people. The manager unwilling to honor a written estimate or at least work with us given the circumstances is why I felt I needed to leave a review. Be warned an estimate may change drastically. I do have everything in writing. I'm very disappointed because I really liked the people there, and I liked having someone that was my go to. Now I feel bad to the people I've referred there over the years. I also feel bad because this is the first negative review I've ever left. As a matter of fact, we left a five star review for this company after the original building was built.
