Our experience with Melbourne Roofing! The main section of our house is shingled and the other section is flat. To begin, they took off all the exhaust fan vents and skylights then started to tear off the old roof. In the process, they swept all the debris, roofing paper, gravel and roofing nails directly into our house through the openings. We tried to tell the crew but none of them spoke English. The owner, MR Jackson of Melbourne Roofing had left them alone all day with no supervision. We cleaned up the initial mess but they just kept sweeping the debris down into our house. We spent 4 hours continuously cleaning. The exhaust fans were full of debris. We had to take off all the covers on the inside of the house to clean the ducts. We turned on the microwave exhaust fan, roofing debris shot out all over our kitchen, etc. The exhaust motor made a loud shrieking sound and froze up! We called MR Jackson. He had to call out an appliance repairman to remove the microwave, clean out the debris along with the roofing nail that had lodged inside the exhaust motor. I had noticed they installed both new skylights totally crooked. I had to bring one of the workers into our home and show him since he didn't speak any English. They had to totally remove them, start over while I guided them from inside the house. Since the skylights had already been permanently installed, they left roofing tar all over the inside of the new skylights along with droppings of tar on our floor that WE had to clean. When done, they left a damaged fascia cover and a damaged window screen that we just had replaced. MR Jackson at first offered to replace the fascia but since they don't make that style anymore he offered to try to repair the best they could and paint itso we settled for that. We spent an additional hour just walking around our house picking up debris and nails after they left! At the same time, even though our flat roof was not leaking, had no issues, we thought we would go ahead and get it resealed anyway since we were having a new roof put on the shingled section. We also contracted with Melbourne Roofing to seal our flat roof. What a joke! They attempted to seal our flat roof by sending someone up with a paint brush and a gallon of sealer on a large flat roof with a lot of seams. MR Jackson told us he would waive the cost of sealing due to all the trouble. In my opinion, this was the least he could do because again, what a joke! It has since rained a few times and now we have discovered multiple leaks in our flat roof. We called 2 more roofing companies to give us an estimate on what it would cost to properly seal the flat roof. I wanted to hear unbiased opinionsso without mentioning any details to either company about our previous experiencewe were shocked that both companies basically told us the same thing. First of all, both companies immediately pointed out that it appeared the flat roof had been walked on extensively and most of the seals on the seams had broken loose. We were told by both that although these flat roofs can be walked onit's to be very limited. The workers from Melbourne Roofing strung their hoses over the flat roof and were walking back and forth. Secondly, both companies ironically commented that whoever tried to seal the seams, did so improperly and a fraction of what was needed. Since both companies specialize in shingled and flat roofs, I had them look at the shingled portion. Again, both commented it was a mediocre job at best. In summary, my wife and I were very patient and tried to give Melbourne Roofing the benefit of the doubt. However in the end, MR Jackson started to become defensive if I would mention anything that we were displeased with. So at this point we were completely done with Melbourne Roofing. I believe MR Jackson wants to do the right thingbut I also believe he should be extremely careful about the subcontractors he hires. I've never had an experience like this with roofs I've had replaced.
