Shelter Construction LLC – Roofing Contractor in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota

From the first meeting with Jeremy H. on, we felt that this company was professional, courteous and worked hard to make sure we were well taken care of. After replacing our roof, we notice that the crew cleaned above and beyond what was called for. They even cleaned the birdseed from our deck that was our mess! Very good company! Well done!

I want to put this out there for anyone considering a contractor for Steel Roofing for their home. My boyfriend, Curt and I hired Shelter Construction LLC, based in Brooklyn Park, MN but work in many areas of the U.S., after they approached us not long after a hail storm last summer. Yes, a storm chaser, but with a good reputation at least for Asphalt Roofing. Signed a contract on 10/09/2018, construction began in April and we are still to this day, 09/09/2019, waiting for a beautiful roof. We have had nothing but problems with this company, which has led Curt to file with the Better Business Bureau, Angie's List and the MN State Attorney General's Office. We're hoping that with these three, we can get some results. This is all public information, go into any one of these sites for all of the details. Search for Shelter Construction LLC. Basically, they hired a subcontractor that had no experience with the type of material ordered. They installed it incorrectly, it had to be torn off and then a complete tear off done on the roof. New material was ordered, and with instruction from CertainTeed, was started up once again. The subcontractor guessed on how to finish the trim some pieces hang lower then others and the backside is open with nails not attached to anything, left one corner of the house unfinished and also left multiple dents because they weren't careful on where they stepped. Shelter's response has been very frustrating. We were told by the project superintendent that the only reason we notice it now is because it's brand new, after awhile we won't notice it anymore. !!! That's not the attitude that a contractor should have about it's services and product. The last thing we were told is that they were ordering a dent puller and would see if that will work. We told them to try it, but any dents are unacceptable! After two weeks I finally emailed the Project Superintendent to find out when we could expect them to come out, he said he would schedule after Curt and I signed a paper, which basically gets them off the hook if the repairs don't meet our expectations. They did this because with this type of steel roofing, you cannot remove sections and replace them. The whole roof would have to come off again. No fault of ours, we're not the ones who hired an inexperienced subcontractor...so now I am sharing this info because we are so tired of being jacked around by this company. I've attached pictures of their workmanship. Would you be happy with this at the tune of 22,420.00?

We had a great experience with Shelter Const. When a rep stopping by to give us a free inspection, because there had been other roofs in the area with damage from hail, we were surprised to find our roof had issues. He contacted our insurance company. Together Shelter and Travelers worked out the contract for repair. We delayed the repair till spring, because the Minnesota weather didn't cooperate. We were fortunate to have Matt Godin, Production Manager, handle our job. We felt confident and comfortable in the quality of work. Matt helped us with our gutter situation that was not even on the list. The roofers found that 2 sheets of plywood had to be replaced due to water damage. We are so happy with the job. They completed it promptly and professionally. We recommended Shelter to our neighbor. Thank you!
